In 1986, in the center of Rio de Janeiro, Livraria da Travessa was born at number 11 of Travessa do Ouvidor. The small Travessa do Ouvidor is a crossroad to the effervescent and avant-garde Rua do Ouvidor of the early twentieth century - one of the cradles of typographic activity and the first Brazilian bookstores, where writers, artists and journalists met, read their newspapers, drank their coffees and were inspired to write.
Since 80’s the bookshops of Livraria da Travessa has become the benchmark in art books, opening several stores in Rio and São Paulo. The last one is on a Portuguese sidewalk in the most recent art museum in Latin America, the Instituto Moreira Salles, on Avenida Paulista, São Paulo.

Em 1986, no centro do Rio de Janeiro, nascia a Livraria da Travessa no número 11 da Travessa do Ouvidor. A pequena Travessa Do Ouvidor é uma transversal à efervescente e vanguardista Rua do Ouvidor do início do século XX - um dos berços da actividade tipográfica e das primeiras livrarias brasileiras, onde escritores, cronistas e jornalistas encontravam-se, liam seus jornais, tomavam seus cafés e se inspiravam para escrever.
Desde os anos 80 e 90, a rede da Livraria da Travessa se tornou a referência nos livros de arte abrindo lojas no Rio e em São Paulo. A última está sobre a calçada portuguesa no mais recente museu de arte da América Latina, o Instituto Moreira Salles, na avenida Paulista, São Paulo.
