A most precious anthology of poetry from the Greek archaic period of 600 BC to the beginning of 20th century, gathered, translated and annotated by the Portuguese poet and intellectual, Jorge de Sena (1919-1978). Written in an exile that lasted all his life, this book seems to have the mark of it, of an idea of extended territory, a poetic geography, perhaps fighting back the sorrows of alienation and isolation. He used the term of “companionship of witnesses” to these translations of other poets, from the most diverse periods and territories.

Este livro é uma preciosa antologia de poesia desde os gregos do período arcaico de 600 a.C. ao início do século XX, reunida, traduzida e anotada pelo poeta e intelectual português, Jorge de Sena (1919-1978). Escrito em exílio, que durou toda a sua vida, este livro parece trazer essa marca, a ideia de um território estendido, de uma geografia que é a poética, talvez contrariando as ameaças de alienação e isolamento. Sena usou mesmo o termo “convívio das testemunhas” para estas traduções de outros poetas, das mais diversas épocas e territórios.
